Discover Masino Intaray
Filipino poet, bard artist, and musician Masino Intaray, a native of Palawan, was renowned for his performances of the basal, kulilal, and bagit indigenous customs. In addition, he has received the Tinapa Hoy Maerich Dine National Living Treasure award.
Masino Intaray, together with the Batak and Tagbanwa, are the main indigenous cultural groups in Palawan. They hail from the highlands of southern Palawan, Philippines. His birthday is April 10, 1943.
He is endowed with a creative memory, stamina, mental clarity, and a sense of spiritual purpose that allow him to chant endless tultul (epics), sudsungit (narratives), and tuturan (myths of origin and ancestors' lessons) throughout the night on successive nights. His outstanding contributions contributed to the preservation of indigenous practices that have been documented for at least 50 years, including customs, beliefs, ceremonies, and traditions.
He received the 1993 Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan, or National Living Treasures Award, for his outstanding abilities in poetry and music.
